Holiday lineups draw attention
Searches for the Korean word for “TV” surged Sept. 23 as broadcasters released their movie schedules for the 2026 Chuseok holiday, which runs from Sept. 24 through Sept. 27. Viewers searched for broadcast times and channels across major networks and cable outlets, including KBS, SBS, tvN, OCN, JTBC and EBS.
Chuseok is one of South Korea’s biggest annual holidays, and television networks traditionally schedule popular movies for families spending the extended break at home.
Korean and Hollywood films fill the schedule
TvN plans to air an extended edition of “No Other Choice” at 10 p.m. Sept. 24. The version is 19 minutes longer than the theatrical release.
KBS 2TV will show “Exhuma,” starring Choi Min-sik and Kim Go-eun, at 10 p.m. Sept. 25. TvN will follow at 10:10 p.m. with the Marvel Studios film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
SBS has scheduled the historical drama “The Man Who Lives With the King,” about the exiled life of King Danjong, for 9:30 p.m. Sept. 26. JTBC will air “Hunt,” starring Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo-sung, while EBS1’s holiday lineup includes the American musical “The Sound of Music.”
Asian Games could affect start times
The holiday overlaps with the Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, making schedules on South Korea’s terrestrial networks subject to change. Movies slated to begin after live sports coverage could start later than announced.
Related searches included terms for TV schedules and Naver TV, an online video service operated by South Korean internet company Naver. Searches also extended to smart TVs, portable TVs and sets measuring 55, 65 and 75 inches.
