Korea to Share E-Procurement Expertise
South Korea’s Public Procurement Service signed a memorandum of understanding with Tanzania’s Public Procurement Regulatory Authority on the 23rd, agreeing to cooperate on electronic, innovative and sustainable government purchasing.
Under the agreement, South Korea will share operational expertise from KONEPS, its government-run electronic procurement system commonly known in Korea as Nara Marketplace. Korean officials will also present the system they have used to track the results of environmentally focused purchasing.
Tanzania, meanwhile, links its electronic procurement platform with government budget, payment and financial systems. South Korea’s procurement agency said it plans to study that approach as the two sides continue their cooperation.
Tanzania Advances Procurement Overhaul
Tanzania’s procurement regulator, an agency under the Finance Ministry that oversees purchasing by public institutions, has pursued a broader digital transition centered on its NeST electronic procurement system since a comprehensive revision of procurement laws in 2023.
The two agencies agreed to exchange policies, regulations and guidelines covering electronic procurement, support for innovative products and sustainable purchasing. They also plan to hold joint workshops and forums to share successful practices.
Officials will seek additional projects, including cooperation to test innovative products in real-world settings.
Baek Seung-bo, head of South Korea’s Public Procurement Service, called the first procurement agreement between the two countries a meaningful starting point for sharing Korea’s experience. He said the agencies would learn from each other’s strengths and share the results internationally to support the development of public procurement worldwide.
