“Chiikawa” remains the week’s top draw
“Chiikawa: The Secret of Mermaid Island” retained the No. 1 spot at South Korea’s weekly box office, drawing 419,223 moviegoers from Oct. 19 through Oct. 25, according to the Korean Film Council, or KOFIC.
The animated feature has sold 2,248,126 tickets since its Sept. 30, 2026, release. It earned 4.31 billion won during the week, accounting for 37.3% of box-office revenue, and played 22,087 times across 1,115 screens.
“Assassin(s)” remained in second place with 125,356 admissions for the week and 3,374,510 overall. Its weekly revenue reached 1.23 billion won, representing a 10.6% market share.
New releases reshape the top five
“Paradise Lost,” released Oct. 21, climbed 22 places to No. 3 with 102,782 weekly admissions and 104,874 overall. Although it opened during the reporting period, KOFIC did not classify it as a new entry because preview screenings had already been counted the previous week.
“Tazza: Song of Beelzebub” slipped one place to No. 4, attracting 88,291 moviegoers and bringing its cumulative audience to 1,999,477.
“Clayface” was the week’s only title classified as a new entry. The film debuted at No. 5 with 77,153 admissions after opening Oct. 21.
Holdovers and sharp gains round out the chart
“Odyssey,” in theaters since Aug. 5, fell two spots to No. 6. It added 43,556 admissions, lifting its cumulative total to 12,311,211, the largest overall audience among the week’s top 10 films.
“Still Brilliant” jumped nine places to No. 7 with 37,242 admissions. “Look Back” fell two spots to No. 8 with 25,706 admissions and 131,051 overall.
“Verity” surged 81 places to No. 9, drawing 25,034 moviegoers during the week, while “Killing Time” rose 28 places to No. 10 with 17,768 admissions. Both had preview admissions recorded before their official openings, so KOFIC did not count them as new entries.
The rankings come from KOFIC’s nationwide integrated movie-ticketing system for the 43rd reporting week of 2026. In South Korea, box-office performance is commonly reported by admissions as well as revenue.
