Kim Da-hyun draws attention with new music and digital release

South Korean singer Kim Da-hyun became a trending search topic on Oct. 9 after announcing two new projects: a self-written song and a set of digital emojis featuring her image.

Kim released her new song “Love Found in Gwangyang” at noon on Oct. 8. The track is described as a semi-trot song with elements of traditional Korean music, a style that blends the country’s folk sounds with the popular trot genre.

The song tells the real-life love story of her grandparents, including her grandmother’s move from Hadong in South Gyeongsang Province to Gwangyang at age 18 after marriage. Kim performed the song for the first time at the 32nd Gwangyang Citizens’ Day celebration, where she also donated 3 million won to a hometown donation program.

A new way to connect with fans

On Oct. 9, Kim announced the release of a KakaoTalk emoji collection featuring 24 images based on her appearance and expressions. KakaoTalk is South Korea’s widely used mobile messaging platform, and emoji packs are a common way for celebrities to interact with fans in everyday digital conversations.

The emoji set includes familiar phrases such as “Hello,” “Thank you,” “I love you,” “Cheer up,” and “Please call me.” Kim shared the news with fans, asking them to show support for the new release.

A busy October for the young performer

Kim is also scheduled to appear on festival stages, including the Guri Cosmos Festival from Oct. 9-11, alongside performers such as Maijin, Mighty Mouth, Yangpa, Hong Isaac and Park Hye-shin.

Earlier in October, Kim attended the red carpet event for the 31st Busan International Film Festival at the Busan Cinema Center and served as a host for the festival’s opening eve event. A video clip featuring her appearance at the festival had received 37,000 views as of Oct. 9.

From traditional music roots to television competitions

Born in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, in 2009, Kim Da-hyun is known as both a trot singer and a traditional Korean music performer. She debuted in 2019 with her older sister through the single album “Cheonghak-dong Traditional Music Sisters - It’s a Celebration” before beginning her solo career with the single “Flower Maiden” the following year.

Kim gained wider recognition through televised singing competitions, finishing as runner-up on MBN’s “Voice Trot” and placing third on TV Chosun’s “Miss Trot 2.” She later ranked third on MBN’s “Current Trot Queen” and received the MVP award at the 2024 MBN program “Korea-Japan Trot Queen Battle.”
