Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Leads Searches
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 was the top rising Google search in South Korea on Oct. 11, 2026, after reports raised questions about how the company evaluates potential defects in its foldable phones.
A Samsung service center reportedly issued different assessments one week apart for two devices that did not close completely. One phone was classified as defective, while the owner of the other was told to continue using it for three weeks. The term recorded more than 200 searches, according to Google’s approximate count.
Interest also came from a price comparison in Japan ahead of the launch of Apple’s first foldable phone, called the iPhone Duo. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at 269,880 yen in Japan, compared with 364,800 yen for Apple’s device.
Baseball Roster Moves and Playoff Race
Kiwoom Heroes outfielder Shim Hwi-yoon ranked second after the Korea Baseball Organization club informed eight players that they would not receive new contracts as part of a roster overhaul. Shim joined Kiwoom as the 109th overall selection in the 11th round of the 2024 draft.
The KIA Tigers placed third as the club set a franchise record with 1,278,888 home spectators in a season. KIA also remained locked in a close race for third place after losing 4-0 to the Lotte Giants. The Tigers stood at 78-63 with two ties, one game ahead of LG, with the teams scheduled to decide third place in their final regular-season meeting in Gwangju on Oct. 12.
KIA player Park Jae-hyun ranked sixth amid coverage of his return from injury, his contributions on offense, defense and the basepaths, and the team’s attempt to extend a winning streak to three games.
Gwangju FC Ends 28-Game Winless Run
Gwangju FC was the fifth-ranked search after the last-place K League 1 club defeated second-place Ulsan HD 4-3 at home. It was Gwangju’s first league victory in 218 days and 29 matches, ending a 28-game winless streak.
Ba Rua contributed to all four goals with two goals and two assists. Gwangju remained at the bottom of the standings with two wins, 12 draws and 17 losses for 18 points.
Political Dispute Drives Searches
Rep. Park Jie-won of the governing Democratic Party ranked fourth after publicly criticizing Gyeonggi Gov. Choo Mi-ae for opposing the nomination of Kim Ji-yong to lead the Central Investigation Office. Park, a former director of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, warned that reopening internal disputes could help forces associated with insurrection regain influence. Kim’s confirmation hearing was scheduled for Oct. 14.
Choo ranked ninth as observers questioned whether a social media post by President Lee Jae-myung was aimed at her. Lee referred to senior officials living privileged lives while cutting welfare spending for ordinary people.
“President” ranked 10th amid reports about Lee’s use of social media and livestreamed meetings to push policy, sometimes followed by abrupt reversals. Related coverage also focused on his references to former President Roh Moo-hyun and former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, and his statement that he would continue communicating through social media despite criticism.
Other Trending Names
Actor Park Won-sook ranked seventh, while Kang Ji-young ranked eighth. Google said the rankings and search totals were based on its real-time South Korean trends data for Oct. 11 and that the figures were approximate.
