‘Paradise Lost’ Opens in Third Place
South Korean thriller “Paradise Lost” reached No. 3 at the country’s overall weekly box office following its Oct. 21 release, according to data from the Korean Film Council, the government-supported agency that tracks the domestic film industry.
The film drew 102,780 moviegoers during the Oct. 19-25 period and recorded 104,872 admissions overall. It ranked second among Korean films and generated 1 billion won in weekly ticket sales.
A Missing Son Returns
The story follows Ryu So-young, whose son disappeared nine years earlier in an incident involving a camping school bus. She copes with the loss through an artificial intelligence program called “Children of Paradise,” which allows her to interact with a digital version of her son as a child.
Her son, Ryu Sun-woo, then unexpectedly returns home, drawing widespread attention to his seemingly miraculous survival. But his body is covered in scars, and his cold demeanor bears little resemblance to the innocent child his mother remembers. So-young begins an unsettling life with both the returned Sun-woo and his AI-generated childhood counterpart, gradually confronting disturbing questions about who her son has become.
Yeon Sang-ho Directs
Yeon Sang-ho directed the 100-minute thriller and drama, which stars Kim Hyun-joo and Bae Hyun-sung. Yeon’s previous work includes the Netflix projects “Hellbound” Season 2 and “JUNG_E,” as well as “The Cursed: Dead Man’s Prey.”
Produced in 2025 by Wow Point and distributed by CJ ENM, “Paradise Lost” is rated in South Korea for viewers 15 and older. Its official Korean release date was Oct. 21, 2026.
