Two New Releases Reshape the Chart
“Assassin(s)” topped South Korea’s weekly box office for Sept. 21-27, drawing 1,546,610 moviegoers and lifting its cumulative audience to 1,566,215, according to the Korean Film Council, the government-backed agency commonly known as KOFIC.
The film climbed eight places from the previous week after opening Sept. 23. It generated 15.35 billion won in weekly ticket sales, accounting for 37.2% of the market, and played 30,226 times across 1,532 screens.
Although “Assassin(s)” had just opened, KOFIC did not classify it as a new entry because preview screenings were included in the previous week’s tally.
“Tazza: Song of Beelzebub,” also released Sept. 23, jumped 10 places to No. 2. It sold 813,833 tickets during the week and reached a cumulative audience of 833,016. The film earned 8.29 billion won, or 20.1% of weekly box-office revenue, from 18,014 showings on 1,073 screens. Like the chart leader, it was not considered a new entry because of earlier preview screenings.
Holdovers Slide as New Films Arrive
“Odyssey” fell two places to No. 3 but remained the chart’s biggest cumulative draw. The film attracted 565,694 viewers during the week, bringing its total audience to 11,783,293 since its Aug. 5 release. It earned 7.18 billion won, representing a 17.4% market share, from 12,737 showings on 1,080 screens.
“The Intern” dropped two spots to No. 4, recording 352,163 weekly admissions and 756,054 overall. The Sept. 16 release earned 3.48 billion won, or 8.5% of the market, while playing 16,792 times across 1,280 screens.
“Obsession” slipped two places to No. 5. It drew 147,446 viewers for the week and reached 849,153 admissions since opening Sept. 2. Its weekly revenue totaled 1.61 billion won, a 3.9% share, from 6,839 showings on 647 screens.
Three Films Make Their Chart Debuts
“Possible Love” was the highest-ranked new entry at No. 6. Released Sept. 23, it attracted 115,520 moviegoers during the week and 115,935 overall. It earned 1.23 billion won, accounting for 3% of the market, from 1,797 screenings on 195 screens.

The children’s film “Octonauts: Above & Beyond — Thrilling Nature Adventure” debuted at No. 10. It sold 17,548 tickets during the week and 17,779 overall, generating 170 million won from 1,308 showings on 255 screens.
Hollywood Franchises Remain in the Top 10
Several franchises familiar to American audiences continued their runs in South Korean theaters. “Resident Evil: Night Zero” fell four places to No. 8, drawing 83,298 viewers for the week and 186,950 since its Sept. 17 opening. It earned 900 million won, or 2.2% of the market, from 4,814 showings on 591 screens.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” dropped four spots to No. 9. The July 29 release added 41,832 admissions, raising its cumulative audience to 9,032,426. It earned 390 million won, representing 1% of the weekly market, from 2,319 screenings on 464 screens.
