IU Donates in Name of Her Fan Community
South Korean singer and actress IU donated 200 million won (about $140,000) to mark the anniversary of her debut, with the contribution made under the name “IU-Aena,” the name of her fan community.
Funds Distributed Among Four Welfare Organizations
According to her agency, EDAM Entertainment, the donation was divided equally among four organizations: Heart-Heart Foundation, Habitat for Humanity Korea, Korea Social Service Association, and Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital. Each organization received 50 million won.
The money will support young adults transitioning out of care facilities, children and teenagers from financially vulnerable backgrounds, rehabilitation treatment programs, and assistance for young women preparing for independent living, including living expenses, education and counseling. Part of the donation will also be used for projects improving housing conditions for national veterans.
A Year of Continued Giving
IU has regularly made charitable donations under the IU-Aena name on meaningful occasions. Earlier this year, she donated 100 million won on Children’s Day in May and 300 million won on her birthday later that month. With the latest contribution, her publicly announced donations this year total more than 600 million won.
Donation Follows New Music Release
The donation came about a week after IU released her new digital single featuring the double title tracks “From This Star” and “Dear My Crazy Soulmate” on Sept. 10. Both songs have remained near the top of domestic music streaming charts following their release.
