A Career in Dance — and Four Supercars
Korean dancer and B-boy Poppin Hyun Joon has disclosed that he owns four supercars, three buildings and other real estate, drawing renewed online attention to a career he says paid for it all.
Appearing with his wife, traditional Korean musician Park Ae-ri, in a Sept. 23 episode of the YouTube program “Doctor Shin,” Poppin Hyun Joon said he previously owned six supercars but had sold two. He also listed a country home, an apartment and land among his holdings, in addition to three buildings.
“I bought it all by dancing,” he said, adding that he had sacrificed his joints to earn the money.
Showing What a Dance Career Can Provide
Poppin Hyun Joon said an older Lamborghini had been his dream car. After encountering comments mocking him for showing off an outdated model, he bought a newer vehicle.
He said he wanted to demonstrate that dancers could have impressive careers and live luxurious lives, framing the cars as a source of professional motivation. He also acknowledged that displaying his wealth had attracted critics.
Born Nam Hyun-joon in Seoul in 1979, he is a dance performance artist, B-boy and head of the Poppin Hyun Joon Art Company. He also teaches as an adjunct professor at Seoul Hoseo Art College. He and Park married in 2011.
Looking Toward New York
Poppin Hyun Joon also said he had established a company in the United States and was exploring a land purchase in New York, providing a potential American foothold for his business activities.
The episode, whose Korean title translates roughly as “How Poppin Hyun Joon Went From Dancing in the Streets to Becoming a Building Owner,” had recorded 24,703 views as of Sept. 24. The disclosures prompted increased searches related to his age, recent activities, cars and teaching career.
