Celebrity updates lead South Korea’s real-time search rankings
South Korea’s Google Trends real-time rankings on Sept. 25 showed a mix of entertainment news, sports updates and security-related stories capturing public attention.
Singer and actor Lee Seung Gi ranked No. 1 after launching his YouTube channel “Lee Seung Gi” on Sept. 24 and sharing details about his family life. In his first video, he talked about his 31-month-old daughter and said she proudly talks about her father at kindergarten. His comments about saving money on fuel after marriage drew mixed reactions online, with some viewers calling the habit modest while others saying they found it difficult to relate.
Actor Lee Si Young ranked No. 2 after posting photos with her two children wearing traditional Korean clothing, known as hanbok, ahead of her second daughter Luna’s first birthday celebration. She also recently discussed family health challenges in a YouTube video.
Military, sports and public interest stories enter the rankings
The search term “explosion” ranked highly as attention grew around reports of a suspected land mine explosion in the western section of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the heavily monitored area separating North and South Korea. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said an injured service member was transported by military medical helicopter, and Chairman Jin Young-seung visited the Army’s 25th Division to review safety measures.
The term “stealth fighter” also gained attention following military-related news, including the delivery of South Korea’s first mass-produced KF-21 fighter jet to the Air Force. The aircraft reached this milestone 11 years after development began and secured Meteor missile capabilities.
Sports-related searches included “Hanwha vs. NC” and “Lotte vs. Doosan,” reflecting interest in Korean professional baseball. Hanwha entered its game against NC after a nine-game losing streak and had officially been eliminated from postseason contention. A Lotte-Doosan game in Seoul was postponed because of autumn rain during the Chuseok holiday period, adding to Lotte’s schedule delays.
Tributes and unexpected search spikes
Japanese dancer Yamada Ria, a member of the winning team on Mnet’s “Street Dance Girls Fighter 2,” was also among the top searches after her death following more than a year of illness. Her family announced the news on social media on Sept. 24.
Gymnast Hwang Seo Hyun drew attention after winning a gold medal in the balance beam event at a competition, becoming the first Korean athlete in 40 years to achieve that result in the event. Other trending terms included “doctor,” linked to reports involving a critical care physician and warnings from Seoul Asan Medical Center about online products falsely using the hospital’s name.
Google Trends rankings and estimated search volumes are based on different measures. The Sept. 25 ranking reflected search activity in South Korea, with the figures provided by Google as approximate values rather than exact counts.
