South Koreans’ fastest-rising Google searches on Sept. 30, 2026, ranged from major court cases and Asian Games soccer to questions about a public holiday, debt collection and apartment redevelopment. Google’s search-volume figures are estimates and do not directly correspond to each topic’s ranking.
Legal and Political Cases Lead Searches
Former lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho ranked No. 1 with more than 5,000 searches after a 20-year prison sentence was requested in a case involving allegations that he obstructed a vote to lift martial law. The ruling is scheduled for Nov. 18.
“Administrative fine” placed second with more than 2,000 searches amid criticism that police had failed to collect roughly half of the fines assessed. CATL, the Chinese battery manufacturer, ranked third as its plant in Hungary began trial production.
Former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung was fourth with more than 2,000 searches. At his first trial, Shim denied all charges involving alleged participation in an insurrection and the decision not to immediately appeal the cancellation of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s detention. Jeon Moo-gon, a former senior prosecution official charged in the same case, also denied the allegations.
Soccer and Practical Information Draw Interest
Questions about whether Armed Forces Day on Oct. 1 would be a public holiday ranked fifth. Asian Games soccer placed sixth with more than 10,000 searches, the largest estimated volume among the top 10 terms. South Korea later defeated China to reach the final, with Bae Jun-ho’s goal drawing particular attention.
Politician Joo Jin-woo ranked seventh after the presidential office rejected his claim of improper coordination with a special counsel investigating the National Election Commission.
The statute of limitations ranked eighth as users sought information about debt collection. Reports said consumers may request an end to collection efforts for debts whose limitation periods have expired, while collection can be deferred for three months when a debtor is undergoing surgery after a traffic accident.
Entertainment and Seoul Real Estate
Comedian Heo Kyung-hwan ranked ninth with more than 5,000 searches. The Jamsil Jugong 5 apartment complex in Seoul placed 10th amid comparisons of redevelopment costs with the Eunma apartment complex. Reports said owners receiving the same 84-square-meter apartment at Eunma could face contributions that are 430 million won higher.
