Lee Signs Appointments During U.N. Visit
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung approved the appointments of Lee So-young as minister of SMEs and Startups and Lee Jeong-hyeon as deputy prosecutor general while visiting New York for the United Nations General Assembly and other multilateral diplomacy.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the approvals after the National Assembly adopted Lee So-young’s confirmation hearing report with bipartisan agreement. The report assessed her qualifications and ethics, as well as her positions on startup policy and support for the growth and innovation of small and midsize businesses.
Deputy to Lead Prosecution Service
With the prosecutor general’s post vacant, Lee Jeong-hyeon will serve as acting chief for the time being. He is also expected to lead the newly established prosecution office in that capacity.
Earlier the same day, the president signed appointment documents for Lee Hyoung-il as deputy prime minister and finance minister, Kang Shin-chul as defense minister and Hong Ji-sun as land and transport minister. Lee Jae Myung will continue his diplomatic schedule in New York.
