South Koreans’ trending Google searches on Sept. 23, 2026, ranged from a labor dispute at a major technology company to baseball injuries, celebrity news and an Asian Games gold medal.
The rankings reflect the order of Google Trends’ real-time list for South Korea. Google’s approximate search-volume figures indicate relative interest but do not necessarily correspond with each keyword’s position.
Naver Z Workers Stage Walkout
“Strike” ranked first after workers at Naver Z, the company behind the metaverse platform Zepeto, began a one-day general strike. About 120 union members participated, demanding that the company reverse a wage freeze. The union also announced plans for a five-day strike next month.
Veteran actor Lim Hyun-sik was the second-ranked search, with more than 2,000 searches. Lim, who began his television career in 1969, discussed his health and finances in a video released by fellow actor Park Won-sook. His disclosure that maintaining the trees at his home once cost 10 million won in a single month drew particular attention. Entertainment coverage also focused on his suggestion that he and Park could live together in a modest apartment.
Baseball Injuries and Asian Games Gold
The Samsung Lions, a professional baseball team based in the southeastern city of Daegu, ranked third. Hitting coach Park Han-yi was removed from the top-team roster after fracturing his ribs in a fall, prompting coach Bae Young-seop to join the club’s first-team staff.
Pitcher Choi Won-tae was also sidelined with discomfort in his left hip. The injuries left Samsung considering a replacement starter or a bullpen game against SSG on Sept. 25.
Shooter Chu Ga-eun ranked fifth after winning South Korea’s first shooting gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan. Chu scored an Asian-record 246.3 points in the women’s 10-meter air pistol final. She also helped South Korea win silver in the team event.
Actors and Television Drive Searches
Actor Jeon Do-yeon placed fourth as photos showing her with blond, platinum blond and red hair circulated online. The platinum look marked her first such transformation since her debut. Interest also coincided with the limited theatrical release of “Possible Love,” starring Jeon and Sol Kyung-gu.
The Korean term for “mother-in-law” generated the day’s largest approximate search volume, at more than 20,000, but ranked seventh on the Trends list. The interest followed television personality Christina’s account of walking naked or wearing a thong in front of her mother-in-law.
Refrigerator Failures, Politics and a Dome Proposal
“Samsung refrigerator update” ranked sixth after a software update left some Samsung Electronics refrigerators inoperable. The company began emergency recovery work and said technicians would make service visits during the Chuseok holiday, one of South Korea’s most important annual family celebrations.
Two political figures also appeared in the top 10. Lawmaker Chun Ha-ram ranked eighth after the emergency leadership committee of the Reform Party set a target of winning 10 seats in the next general election and called on him to run in southern Gyeonggi province.
Lawmaker Na Kyung-won ranked ninth after criticizing public safety conditions in response to a video showing two foreign men blocking a road outside an urban area and attacking a vehicle.
Duryu Park in Daegu completed the list. The city is pursuing a government competition to build a 20,000-seat domed stadium at the park. The project is expected to cost 500 billion won, with completion targeted for 2034.
