Shin-chan Steps Into an Interactive Adventure

An interactive exhibition based on the popular animated franchise “Crayon Shin-chan” opened Oct. 17, 2026, at Stage Bimil Seongsu in Seoul’s Seongsu district.

The exhibition, titled “Crayon Shin-chan! Let’s Play! A Space-Time Adventure,” was jointly planned and produced by Dotmill and Incubase Studio. It received official approval from Futabasha and ADK, companies associated with the Japanese franchise.

Dotmill previewed the attraction during a news conference and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the venue on Oct. 16, one day before the public opening.

Who Is Crayon Shin-chan?

The franchise centers on Shin Jjang-gu, the Korean name for a mischievous 5-year-old kindergarten student known in Japan as Shinnosuke Nohara. English-language audiences may know him as Shin Nohara or Crayon Shin-chan.

Recognizable by his close-cropped hair and thick eyebrows, Shin-chan is portrayed as unpredictable, athletic and unusually agile. He leads a group of young friends known in the Korean edition as the Tteoknip Village Defense Force. Although early versions of the character emphasized his rude and brash behavior, his personality became gentler as the series developed.

His favorite things include the fictional snack Chocobi, the superhero Action Mask, robots and teasing his mother. He dislikes several vegetables, including bell peppers, onions, carrots and cucumbers, as well as being told to walk the family dog.

Shin-chan’s Circle of Friends

The group includes Maeng-gu, a quiet child who collects rocks and readily joins Shin-chan’s unusual games; Cheol-su, whom Shin-chan frequently annoys but shares a close friendship with; Hoon, a timid and sensitive boy who often cries when startled; and Yuri, a fan of highly dramatic make-believe games whose character grew more intimidating and strong-willed over time.

In the original Japanese version, Shin-chan refers to himself using the pronoun “ora.” Yumiko Kobayashi provides his Japanese voice, while Park Young-nam, Lee Young-joo and Jeong Seon-hye have voiced the character in Korean-dubbed versions.
