Dodgers infielder Kim Hye-seong tops South Korea's trending searches

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Kim Hye-seong was the No. 1 trending search term on Google Korea on Oct. 3, as attention grew around his possible inclusion on the team's Division Series roster. The Athletic projected the Dodgers' 26-man roster and included Kim as a potential bench option, citing his defensive versatility and speed as reasons he could contribute.

Kim has not returned to Major League Baseball since May and finished the season in Triple-A. He joined Dodgers team workouts at Dodger Stadium on Oct. 3, pairing with infielder Tommy Edman. Manager Dave Roberts said the team was still considering its bench options. Kim was part of the Dodgers' 2025 World Series championship run, contributing as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.

The possibility of Kim facing fellow Korean player Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves in the Division Series also drew attention among Korean baseball fans.

Golf gold medal and outdoor trends draw attention

Professional golfer Kim Joo-hyung ranked third among Korea's trending searches after winning the men's individual golf gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. He shot a final-round 6-under 64 at Kasugai Country Club to finish at 18-under 262, three strokes ahead of the second-place group.

The victory marked South Korea's first Asian Games men's individual golf gold medal since 2010. Kim arrived in Japan after competing in the Presidents Cup in the United States and later said he received an encouraging message from Tiger Woods before the final round.

Other lifestyle-related searches reflected seasonal interests in South Korea. “Trekking” ranked second as autumn hiking events and outdoor festivals gained attention. “Leather jacket” also appeared among the top searches as fashion content highlighted fall outerwear styles.

Economic, entertainment and social topics round out the list

Business-related searches included SK hynix, which ranked ninth but recorded the highest estimated search volume among the top 10 with more than 20,000 searches. The semiconductor company was linked to news about progress at a semiconductor industrial complex. “Shipyard” also trended alongside reports about overseas expansion in South Korea's shipbuilding industry.

Other major search terms included Ferrari, following an online story about a truck driver who said he was involved in an accident with an expensive Ferrari; broadcaster and former basketball player Seo Jang-hoon, whose name rose alongside a television program preview; and politician Jeong Cheong-rae, whose name appeared in political discussions.

The rankings were based on Google Korea's real-time trending search list. Google notes that the displayed search figures are approximate estimates and do not directly represent the exact gap in search volume between rankings.
