South Korea’s trending Google searches on Oct. 14, 2026, reflected a mix of celebrity news, baseball, economic forecasts and regional development debates. TV personality Jang Sung-kyu ranked first, followed by searches for the global economy and retired baseball star Lee Dae-ho.
Google’s figures are approximate, relative estimates. Trending rank and total search volume are calculated differently, so the highest-ranked term does not necessarily have the largest number of searches.
A Celebrity Birthday Gift Draws Attention
Jang, a former announcer who became a television personality, topped the list after sharing images of a birthday celebration for his wife, Lee Yoo-mi. The photos showed a cake, tennis rackets and a case labeled as a real estate contract. Reports that he had given his wife a property contract as a birthday present drove interest in his name, which Google estimated had more than 100 searches.
Japan’s Economic Ranking in Focus
“Global economy” ranked second with more than 5,000 estimated searches after the International Monetary Fund’s October World Economic Outlook projected that Japan’s nominal gross domestic product could fall to sixth place globally in 2027.
The forecast indicated that India and Britain could overtake Japan. Japan’s economy is still expected to grow when converted into dollars, but at a slower pace than those two countries.
Baseball Stars and Stadium Plans
Lee Dae-ho ranked third with more than 1,000 estimated searches. The retired professional baseball player is a celebrated former Lotte Giants slugger whose uniform number has been retired by the team.
On Oct. 13, Lee posted a video on his personal YouTube channel showing him sharing a meal and advice with 2027 rookies Ha Hyun-seung and Lee Ho-min. Particular attention centered on Lee Ho-min, a power-hitting first-round pick for the KIA Tigers and a younger alumnus of Lee Dae-ho’s high school.
Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan ranked fifth with more than 100 estimated searches. Dongnae District opened a feasibility study into continuing plans to rebuild the stadium and using the project to support the surrounding economy. The debate comes as the Busan city government pursues a separate multipurpose domed arena at the city’s North Port.
Regional Policy and Other Searches
“Public institutions” ranked fourth with more than 200 estimated searches as regional cities intensified efforts to attract government agencies under a planned second round of relocations away from the capital region. The Daegu Institute of Architects called for a swift process based on fair standards, greater participation by local architects and improved living conditions for relocated employees and their families.
Sixth place went to searches for Melbourne Victory versus FC Seoul, with more than 5,000 estimated searches. Former Samsung Lions pitcher An Ji-man ranked seventh after he was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for fraud involving acquaintances and about 300 million won.
Singer Ahn Sung-hoon ranked eighth after interest in a television segment featuring Song Ga-in’s first visit to the home of her friend of 15 years. “Internet” ranked ninth, while “gas pipeline” placed 10th.
Alaska Investment Links the Trend to the U.S.
The gas pipeline search followed statements from the White House referring to South Korean investment in Alaska and citing $54 billion. President Donald Trump also mentioned potential South Korean and Taiwanese investment in Alaska liquefied natural gas.
The rankings and approximate search volumes were based on Google Trends’ real-time data for South Korea on Oct. 14.
