Satire Sends Kang Yu-mi to No. 1
South Korean comedian Kang Yu-mi topped the country’s real-time Google trending searches on Nov. 1, 2026, after releasing a YouTube video satirizing a fashion and shopping trend known as “Hyunbaek-core.”
The term combines a shortened Korean name for Hyundai Department Store with “normcore,” the deliberately ordinary fashion aesthetic. Kang’s video poked fun at affluent “rich daughter” styling and the consumer behavior associated with department store visits. Reports that the retail industry was watching the parody closely helped drive further interest. Google estimated more than 100 searches for Kang’s name during the measured period.
Korean Baseball Dominates Sports Searches
Ticket sales for the Korean Series, the championship round of South Korea’s top professional baseball league, ranked second with more than 200 searches. The KT Wiz and Samsung Lions are scheduled to open the series Nov. 3.
Tickets for Games 1 through 7 were set to go on sale Nov. 2 through the NOL Ticket website, mobile application and customer service center. Sales were scheduled to begin hourly from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with purchases limited to four tickets per person.
Samsung Lions left-hander Lee Seung-min ranked third after helping his team defeat KIA and advance to the Korean Series. Lee appeared in all five playoff games, allowing one run over 5 1/3 innings while recording two holds and a 1.69 ERA. Samsung manager Park Jin-man called him the playoff’s “hidden MVP.”

A search for the standings involving Ulsan HD FC and Gangwon FC ranked fifth and drew more than 5,000 searches. Ulsan came from behind to win 2-1 in the opening match of the K League 1 final round, with Erick scoring twice. The victory kept Ulsan in second place. Before the match, Ulsan had 51 points and Gangwon had 48.
“FC Seoul vs Incheon” ranked ninth, also with more than 5,000 searches.
