A Glimpse Into Kim Jang-hoon’s Life Alone

Veteran South Korean singer Kim Jang-hoon drew renewed search interest after appearing in a Nov. 1 preview for the variety show “My Little Old Boy.” The program introduced Kim as a 64-year-old man living alone and showed him beginning his morning with an unusual vocal exercise directed toward a large earthenware jar. Watching the footage, television personality Seo Jang-hoon remarked that it was becoming “a little frightening.”

Kim debuted in 1991 with the album “Always Between Us” and later released songs including “If I Were Like You,” “I Am a Man” and “Even If the World Deceives You.”

A Surprising Pension Estimate

The preview also showed Kim calling to ask whether he was old enough to begin receiving South Korea’s National Pension, the country’s public retirement program. After learning that he would soon qualify, he asked about his estimated monthly benefit and responded, “Per month? They give me that much?” The amount was not disclosed.

Kim was born in 1963. Under South Korean rules, people born from 1961 through 1964 may begin receiving the National Pension’s old-age benefit at 63.

Revisiting Rumors About Lee So-ra

Singer Lee So-ra appeared at Kim’s home in the preview, helping him select clothes and washing dishes after a meal. Kim asked whether she had been the last person linked to him in a dating rumor.

Recalling the incident, Kim said they had walked while holding hands and that he could not forget the excitement he felt at the time. Lee replied that she had also linked arms with him and still does. More of their conversation about the past rumor is scheduled to air on the Nov. 8 episode at 9 p.m.

New Music Adds to Attention

The television appearance comes as Kim promotes new music. He released the single “Sad Gift” on Oct. 30, including a new version of a song he first recorded in 1999. The audio video for “Sad Gift (2026 ver.)” had received 40,711 views as of Nov. 2.

Videos featuring Kim giving a vocal lesson and participating in exercise content were also released Nov. 1. The combination of his upcoming television appearance, the renewed dating speculation, his pension reaction and the new single contributed to the rise in searches for his name.
