TWS returns with a fan-inspired title track

K-pop group TWS released its second single, TO US, on the 2nd, led by the title track “Call My Name.” The project explores the anxieties and emotions of youth, a theme that has shaped the group’s music since its debut.

“Call My Name” centers on the idea that having someone who believes in you can provide the courage to face any situation. The members identified that source of support as 42, the name of the group’s fandom. Youngjae, Shinyu and Dohoon participated in writing the lyrics, which describe putting everything on the line onstage.

Jihoon said hearing fans call the members’ names gave them the confidence to throw themselves into performances despite their imperfections. Kyungmin said the group plans to present a more advanced stage than the bright, refreshing performances associated with earlier songs such as “OVERDRIVE.” Jazz musician Yoon Seok-cheol played piano on the track, adding what Kyungmin described as an emotional current that follows the song.

A sold-out milestone in Seoul

TWS held its first solo concert in June at Seoul’s KSPO Dome and sold out the arena. Located in Olympic Park, the venue is often described in South Korea as a landmark stage for K-pop acts. During a group interview at Pledis Entertainment’s offices in Seoul last month, the members said they still vividly remembered the glowing light sticks and cheers from 42.

The group debuted in January 2024 with “Plot Twist,” whose Korean title means “The First Meeting Doesn’t Go as Planned.” The song topped a year-end music chart in 2024. Jihoon called its success a major stroke of luck, saying the warm reception also gave TWS the confidence to pursue a new image.

Teamwork around the ‘campfire’

The members said they maintain their bond through a regular gathering they call “Campfire,” a tradition that began when their debut lineup was confirmed during their trainee years. At the meetings, they speak candidly about hurt feelings and the group’s future. Shinyu described the conversations as the secret to their teamwork.

Looking ahead, Dohoon said the group hopes to become a festival headliner. TWS has often appeared in morning time slots at events including Japan’s Summer Sonic, he said, but the group wants to perform a longer set at night on a main stage. TWS plans to promote “Call My Name” on televised music programs and other stages.
