A Drama Told Through the Belongings of the Dead
“Move to Heaven,” a 10-episode Korean drama released on Netflix on May 14, 2021, follows a young man with Asperger syndrome and the ex-convict uncle who unexpectedly becomes his guardian.
Han Geu-ru, played by Tang Jun-sang, and his uncle, Cho Sang-gu, played by Lee Je-hoon, operate a trauma-cleaning business that sorts through the possessions of people who have died. As they work, they uncover stories the deceased were unable to share during their lifetimes.
Created by Yoon Ji-ryun, the series focuses less on death itself than on the lives reflected in the objects left behind. Its cases connect the work of Geu-ru and Sang-gu to relationships among parents and children, uncles and nephews, and friends.
The People Around Geu-ru and Sang-gu
Hong Seung-hee plays Geu-ru’s friend Yoon Na-mu, while Jung Suk-yong and Jung Young-joo portray her parents. The supporting cast also includes Lee Moon-sik as a waste-disposal truck driver and Lim Won-hee as a lawyer.
Ji Jin-hee makes a special appearance as Geu-ru’s father. Other characters include a boxer suffering from punch-drunk syndrome, a prosecutor handling a death investigation, a social worker and Matthew Green, an overseas adoptee with a congenital heart condition who was born Kang Seong-min in Korea.

Netflix’s international platform brought the Korean series to American and other English-speaking audiences. The show is listed as a drama on TMDb, where it has an 8.0 rating based on 390 votes.
