BTS launches South America tour schedule in Bogotá

South America's leg of BTS' world tour “ARIRANG” begins in Bogotá, Colombia, with two concerts on Oct. 2 and 3, according to the group's agency, BigHit Music. The seven-member K-pop group will continue through four more cities — Lima, Peru; Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and São Paulo, Brazil — for a total of 14 performances across five cities.

The Bogotá and Buenos Aires shows mark the first time BTS will perform as a complete seven-member group in those countries. The Santiago schedule includes three performances on Oct. 14, 16 and 17.

Bogotá honors BTS ahead of concerts

Bogotá has designated BTS as “honorary guests,” a civic recognition given by the city to notable visitors in fields including politics, public service, arts, sports, science and education who are considered to have contributed to public welfare or urban development.

The city said BTS, which debuted in 2013, has helped raise the international profile of Korean music and culture while influencing younger generations. Bogotá also said the group's visit could help highlight the city as a center for cultural and creative industries and a destination for major global events.

To celebrate the concerts, purple lighting — a color closely associated with BTS and its fan community — will illuminate landmarks including the Colpatria Tower.

Concerts expected to bring economic impact across the region

Bogotá's economic development office estimated the concerts could generate an economic impact of about 126.054 billion Colombian pesos, or roughly 51.7 billion won, while creating an estimated 5,244 direct and indirect jobs. The city's tourism observatory previously estimated that fans attending the two Bogotá concerts could spend about 99 billion Colombian pesos on food, accommodation, transportation, shopping and merchandise.

In Chile, an economic study commissioned by the newspaper Diario Financiero estimated that BTS' three Santiago performances could generate about $53 million in economic impact, including spending beyond tickets. In Brazil, the economic publication Exame projected ticket sales alone for the three São Paulo shows could reach at least 216.8 million Brazilian reais.

Fan demand highlights BTS' reach in Latin America

Government tourism officials in Peru cited BTS as an example of music tourism, noting that more than 521,000 people were placed on a waiting list for tickets to the Lima concert. Fans from Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia also helped organize a drone show honoring BTS in Lima, with more than 25,000 participation entries contributing to the event.

In São Paulo, more than 630,000 people sought access during the two-day presale period for the concerts, showing strong demand for the group's South American return.

BTS' latest full-length album “ARIRANG,” released in March, ranked No. 3 on Spotify's Global Weekly Top Albums chart for the Sept. 25-Oct. 1 tracking period. The album's title track “SWIM” ranked No. 24 on Spotify's Global Weekly Top Songs chart during the same period.
