K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN members Hoshi (Kwon Soonyoung) and Woozi (Lee Jihoon) have confirmed their military enlistment for September, according to an official announcement by Pledis Entertainment on July 8th.
'96-Line Duo Enlisting One Day Apart
Pledis revealed detailed military service plans for both members through Weverse in a notice titled 'SEVENTEEN Hoshi, Woozi Enlistment Information.' Woozi will enlist on September 15th, with Hoshi following on September 16th, both serving as active-duty soldiers in the Army.
The two members, both born in 1996, will enlist just one day apart, showcasing their special bond within SEVENTEEN. These are pivotal figures in the group, with Hoshi serving as Performance Team leader and Woozi as a Vocal Team member and the group's main producer.
WARNING Concert and Fan Signing as Final Official Schedule
Their final official activities before enlistment include the ongoing 'HOSHI X WOOZI FAN CONCERT [WARNING]' and a video call fan signing event related to SEVENTEEN's 5th full album. The WARNING concert holds special significance for fans as it will be the last stage featuring both members together.
The concert tour spans five cities: Seoul (July 11-13), Busan (July 19-20), Taipei (July 26-27), Japan (August 6-7), and Gwangju (August 23-24).
Continued Communication with CARATs During Service
Pledis announced that while both members won't be able to participate in SEVENTEEN's group activities during their military service, they have prepared various pre-recorded content to maintain communication with CARATs (SEVENTEEN's fandom). This allows fans to maintain connections with the members even during their service period.
The agency also requested fans to refrain from visiting the enlistment ceremony in person, considering that many other enlistees and their families will be present. Instead, they encouraged fans to send messages of support and encouragement through Weverse.
Beginning of SEVENTEEN's Enlistment Wave
Hoshi and Woozi's enlistment marks the beginning of SEVENTEEN members' full-scale military service. Jeonghan already enlisted on September 26th last year, and Wonwoo began public service on April 3rd this year. With 9 out of 13 members subject to mandatory service, SEVENTEEN will experience gradual member absences over the coming years.
However, S.Coups is exempt due to ACL injury, Joshua holds US citizenship, and The8 and Jun are Chinese nationals, so these four members will continue carrying the group's legacy.
New Turning Point After 10th Anniversary
SEVENTEEN celebrated their 10th debut anniversary on May 16th and commemorated it by releasing their 5th full album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' in late May. During the CARAT LAND fan meeting in March, Hoshi had previewed: 'Woozi and I plan to enlist in the second half of 2025, but we'll be able to spend our 10th anniversary together and create good memories.'
Hoshi particularly reassured fans at the time: 'Maybe because enlistment is approaching, every performance feels more precious. We're not disappearing—we'll continue working hard even after we return.'
Shock of 2/3 Leader Line Absence
Fans express significant disappointment about Hoshi and Woozi's joint enlistment. With 2/3 of the 'leader line' consisting of Hoshi, Woozi, and S.Coups becoming absent, worried reactions like 'what are we going to do' are pouring in.
One fan expressed mixed emotions: 'Of course, I'm sad with each enlistment announcement, but something about Hoshi and Woozi hurts extra. That's 2/3 of the leader line—what are we going to do?'
Expectations for Remaining Members' Activities
In a May interview, S.Coups offered a positive outlook: 'I think this can be a great opportunity for the members who are still remaining. We can stick together and make something great to showcase to the fans.'
SEVENTEEN is currently preparing for the '[RIGHT HERE] WORLD TOUR' starting October 12th at Goyang Stadium, but Hoshi and Woozi won't be able to participate due to their enlistment. Instead, the remaining members will proceed with the tour in a new formation.
As SEVENTEEN's next-generation leadership and teamwork face their test, CARATs' hearts are united in wishing for Hoshi and Woozi's healthy service and safe return.
